Windows Error Reporting(WER) System is basically a failure reporting technology. Initially it was designed and developed by Microsoft for Windows XP operating system. Later on it was integrated with Windows Vista,Windows 7,Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0 versions. This ground breaking technology collects post error debug information and transmits it to the application developer through internet. This occurs whenever the application crashes or stops responding on the developer’s desktop. No debugging information is sent without the user’s content. After receiving the debugging information,the Microsoft server analyzes it. After that, if a solution is found,it is sent to the user through Windows Error Reporting(WER) Responses. Its runs as a Windows service and could be disabled if required. If the service itself malfunctions, then the error report cannot be sent.

Implementation In Other Windows Versions

Initially, Windows Error Reporting was introduced with Windows XP. Later, this service was incorporated in Windows Vista with improved features. A new set of applications were developed to report failures other than application crashes. Custom reports could be created and the reporting user interface could be customized by the developers. The architecture of the entire service was redesigned to focus on the user experience and reliability. In Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 versions, the solution control panel and problem reports were replaced by the maintenance section of the Windows Action Center.

Third Party Software Interface

Hardware and software vendors could access their error reports through Microsoft’s Winequal program. To make the sure that the error information reaches the right person, the vendors are given a VeriSign Class 3 digital ID. The vendors could also close the loop with their clients by linking the error signature to the WER responses.

Drawbacks

The only drawback of WER is that confidential information could be leaked out while transferring the debugging information.

This method is also known as CSMA/CD. Using this method, the Ethernet protocol controls the communication process on the network. In this communication process,all Ethernet nodes monitor the data bus continuously. When one Ethernet node starts transmitting a data packet, all other nodes do not transmit. Once the transmission is over, the bus becomes free for other nodes to transmit. If more than one nodes start transmission at the same time, then only one node wins the arbitration. The successful node continues transmission and other unsuccessful nodes cease to transmit. Thus the communication process goes on.
